7 Best High MOI Putters – Say Bye to 3 Putts!

Updated on

This is our review of the 7 Best High MOI putters.

High MOI (Moment of Inertia) mallet-style putters are becoming the go-to golf club when stepping on the greens. Even Tour pros like Dustin Johnson and Collin Morikawa are starting to use these styles of putters. Heck, even I’m using the TaylorMade Spider Tour Putter #3, and I can proudly say that it’s keeping me firmly in the low handicap range.

best high MOI putters

If you’re a golfer struggling with the putter, siding with a good high MOI putter will very likely lower your handicap significantly. Simply put, skids are reduced and you’ll get better rolls on the golf ball with accurate speed control on almost every putt.

That said, here are the 7 best high MOI putters right now. After this list, we’ll have a putter-buying guide at the bottom of this article too!

Let’s get the ball rolling! (Please laugh at my puns)

  4. Pinemeadow Golf Men’s PGX MB Putter (Best Budget High MOI Putter)
  5. Odyssey Golf 2021 Ten Putter (Good High MOI Putter Alternative)
  6. Ray Cook Golf Silver Ray SR500 Putter (Second Most Affordable High MOI Putter)
  7. Cleveland Golf Frontline Elevado Putter (Best MOI Putter with Good Alignment Assistance)

7 Best High MOI Putters

Here are the 7 best high MOI putters, note that these are all mallet-style putters as blade-style putters are almost never MOI-focused. That said, after this list, we have a high MOI putter buying guide so please make sure to take a read at that before picking the putter you end up going with.

1. TaylorMade Spider Tour Black Putter #3 (Highest MOI Putter – Serious Bang for Your Buck)

Pros
  • One of the best putters out there and the most affordable
  • Light but generates a good amount of roll
  • Decent amount of feedback despite its high MOI and perimeter weighting
  • Visually amazing – matted black with a sporty white line
  • Large sweet spot
Cons
  • Some have mentioned paint chipping (so far mine is still fine)

For a putter under $200 dollars (much less than most putters on this list) and one of the best performing putters still, the TaylorMade Spider Tour Putter stands as one of the highest MOI putters out in the market right now.

Style: Mallet-style putter

Released: 2020

Length Options: 34” & 35”

Forgiveness is high as it’s one of the highest MOI and perimeter weighing putters out there, leading to mishits being very forgiving and still resulting in relatively straight golf shots.

Weight-wise, it’s on the lighter side, but TaylorMade compensated for this with its Pure Roll Insert and groove design at 45 degrees. These features compensate for the lighter weight of the Spider Putter, generating more roll and speed control which is awesome. In short, this add-on allows you to putt it within control without ever needing to kill the golf ball.

One of the main standouts of this putter is actually its design. Its square, symmetric design allows you to feel the head path during your stroke, and the white alignment marker that runs straight through the center of the crown of the putter is easily one of the best yet simple training aids for hitting the ball centered on your putts.

2. Cobra Golf Agera 2021 King 3D Printed Putter (Runner-Up: Best Heavy High MOI Putter)

Pros
  • Big Putter Head
  • Heavier putter head → amazing MOI
  • Looks like a mean sports car
  • Premium quality
  • Arcoss Caddie Grip
Cons
  • On the more pricey side

Ever heard of a Putter with 3D Printed features? It’s a first for us too, but the new concept of the Cobra Golf 2021 King 3D Printed Putter may shape the way putters are made in the future! Specifically, this putter has a 3D-printed nylon face insert that features a lattice-style groove pattern design, which prevents the golf ball from skidding and gives it a softer feel.

Style: Mallet-style putter

Released: 2021

Length Options: 34”, 35”, 37.5”, 41”

Stability is the key standout for the Cobra putter, it’s similar to the TaylorMade Spider but it’s heavier and the square body is bigger and well distributed (totaling 284g). In terms of MOI, the excellent weight distribution of this putter speaks for itself. With paired tungsten weights, SIK aluminum face, steel body, and forged aluminum crown, the putter makes sure that mishits putts have almost no effect on the putter’s ability to stay square on impact.

And not to mention, the putter is paired with the Arcoss Caddie in the stock Cobra Connect Grip which allows you to use statistics to analyze your stroke through the Arcoss Caddie mobile app.

3. Odyssey Golf 2022 Eleven Putter (Runner-Up 2: Best Customizable High MOI Putter)

Pros
  • Multiple-Tour Line Options
  • On the more expensive end of putters
  • Super customizable, a unique putter for everyone.
  • TPU sole insert for improved power
Cons
  • The shape is unique and takes a while to get used to for some
Odyssey Golf 2Ball Eleven Tour Lined Putter, Left Handed, Slant Neck Hosel, 33 Inch Length, Pistol Grip

Odyssey has always made some of the best putters out there and is the Master of creating blade putters. For high MOI putters, Odyssey still stands as a top contender with its new, and ever-well-known series with the Odyssey Golf 2022 Eleven Putter.

Style: Mallet-style putter

Released: 2022

Length Options: 33”, 34”, 35”

Consistency is everything in the Eleven Putter, with it being a high MOI mallet-style putter and the center of gravity ¼  more forward towards the face compared to most mallet putters, face twisting on mishits is ruled out with this putter and you won’t be seeing less power or less roll on mishits. Plus a super lightweight TPU Sole Insert adds-on to the sound and feel of the putter for better satisfaction on centered hits.

The putter also comes with many customizations. You can choose between four hosel styles (Double Bend, Slant Neck, Crank Hosel, and Center Shafted Hosel). We recommend the crank or the center hosel for beginners or high handicappers. You also get to pick different alignment styles on the crown (we recommend its famous two-ball design). Simply put, with so many customization options everyone would have their own unique Eleven Putter by Odyssey.

4. Pinemeadow Golf Men’s PGX MB Putter (Best Budget High MOI Putter)

Pros
  • The most affordable high MOI putter you can get
  • Great for beginners and those coming from blade-style putters
  • Large sweet spot
  • Better than average performance in every aspect
Cons
  • Not a big fan of the alignment markers
Pinemeadow Golf PGX MB Putter (Right), Black

For roughly $50, this is the best putter option designed for beginners looking for good MOI. The Pinemeadow Golf PGX MB Putter has been one of the top standout putters in my opinion.

Style: Mallet-style putter

Released: 2020

Length Options: 34”

You can’t really find a putter with this amount of stability and consistency at such a low price point. Easily, it should be valued at the high 100s. And, the matte black coloration made it noticeable and easy to track the against the green which made it feel ‘different’ if I had to say so myself but in a good way.

That said, it’s not a particularly big putter and is quite lightweight but has a large sweet spot making it easy to get the ball going really anywhere you hit it. That said if you’re a blade-style user looking to swap over to a mallet putter, finding an affordable and great mallet putter like the PGX MB is something you can consider.

5. Odyssey Golf 2021 Ten Putter (Good High MOI Putter Alternative)

Pros
  • Almost neck and neck with the Eleven Putter
  • Seen on the PGA Tour
  • High-Performance Microhinge for solid roll
Cons
  • More wobble than the Eleven Putter
  • Slightly expensive
Callaway Odyssey Golf 2021 Ten Putter (Right-Handed, 2 Ball Lined, Slantneck Pistol, 35") , Black

Following off the Odyssey Golf 2022 Eleven Putter, we’re now jumping ships to its older brother the Odyssey Golf 2021 Ten Putter.

Style: Mallet

Released: 2021

Length Options: 33”, 34”, 35”, 40”, 42”

Feature-wise the Ten Putter is relatively similar to the Eleven Putter in terms of forgiveness. However, there are subtle differences that the Eleven Putter does better, specifically the Ten feels slightly more wobbly when set on the floor whereas the Eleven Putter sits flush on the ground. On top of that, the Eleven Putter feels somewhat softer and more stable than the Ten Putter.

Beyond that, it’s still an amazing putter with all the customization available, including the famous two-ball crown design which anyone using this putter should use.

6. Ray Cook Golf Silver Ray SR500 Putter (Second Most Affordable High MOI Putter)

Pros
  • Crazy affordable, I mean come on for less than 70 bucks!
  • Well-balanced and comfortable
  • Does well on mishits
  • Decent MOI
Cons
  • Not the best quality given the price point, paint wear is a real problem
  • Only one length is available
Ray Cook Golf Silver Ray SR500 Putter, 34, Right

Ray Cook is a renowned putter inventor who created the famous M1 Putter that claimed a PGA Tour Trophy. With their Silver Ray SR500 Putter, for just under $70 bucks, you’re looking at one of the holy grails of the budget-friendly higher MOI putters category.

Style: Mallet-style putter

Released: 2017

Length Options: 34”

Ray Cook’s stunning line of SR500 Putters is a good option if you’re looking for a decent putter to get the ball rolling (please laugh at my puns) and features comfort and good feedback on your putts.

It’s got a mid-size putter grip that fits well for those with larger hands and does a solid job in keeping the face squared and the ball straight on mishits.

7. Cleveland Golf Frontline Elevado Putter (Best MOI Putter with Good Alignment Assistance)

Pros
  • Good price for a decent MOI putter
  • One of the best putters for alignment
  • Large Sweet Spot
  • Another Affordable Premium Option
Cons
  • Some may not like the design

Cleveland is famous for its short-game golf clubs, particularly its wedges. However, they also have a sick line of putters and got a lot of experience making great ones too!

Style: Mallet-style putter

Released: 2017

Length Options: 34”

The Cleveland Golf Frontline Elevado Putter is one of those masterpieces that generates good roll and from our testing, really suppresses any skids on the green. The design of the putter says it all in terms of how it deals with MOI, having more weight at the sides, it does well on off-center shots. Though the feel isn’t as great as the top 3 putters on this, for its price point it’s worth taking a look at this putter.

Last but not least, the 2135 Technology of the Elevado allows players to benefit from Cleveland’s alignment system regardless of the setup by elevating the sight line on the back of the head to make it easier to visually align with the golf ball.

High MOI Putter Buying Guide

What is a High MOI Putter?

Moment of Inertia (MOI) is simply a golf club’s stability on impact and ability to transfer its energy to the golf ball on mishits. In the case of a putter, it’s the same idea, shots off the toe and heel are more forgiving which can be extremely useful for those who struggle to hit the ball centered. This is achieved by good perimeter weighting which is the weight that is distributed to the edges of the club face rather than all at the center.

On top of that, we mentioned better energy transfer. If you struggle with skidding the golf ball, high MOI putters transfer more speed to the golf ball on mishits, leading to a better roll.

The question then is, why doesn’t everyone just use a high MOI putter? That’s because these putters don’t do well in providing good feedback to the golfer. Why?

Simply because the weight distribution on the perimeter dampens the recoil of the club on off-centered contact, meaning you won’t really tell where you’re hitting on the face. This is usually achieved with blade putters. However, for most golfers, feedback on the putter is not really that needed, even PGA players are gradually transitioning to mallet-style high MOI putters instead.

Who Should Use High MOI Putters?

Anyone, especially beginners all the way to mid-handicappers. For golfers in that skill range, putting tends to be one of the primary factors that are ruining their golf handicap.

Oftentimes, non-experienced putters skid the golf ball too much rather than a mishit on the putter’s face. That’s where the high MOI comes in.

However, it also depends on your putting style. If you prefer more feedback and can generate a good roll on your putts, then go with a blade-style putter. But if you’re stepping into putting for the first time as a beginner, or MOI is what you need, then a Mallet-style high MOI putter in this list is your best bet.

How to Pick the Right Putter Length?

It goes without question that the length of the putter is really dependent on your height and wingspan.

Generally speaking, it’s usually directly correlated with your height. Here’s what people tend to go with:

Golf’s Height (feet and inches)Putter’s Length (inches)
6 feet35”
5’9’’ to 6”34’’
5’6’’ to 5’9”33’’

If you’re above 6’2” or below 5’6” a customized putter is often the choice you’d go with.

The Verdict – High MOI Putters

High MOI putters can be your best friend when it comes to playing better golf and it’s good to get used to one good putter ASAP. When you reach a lower handicap, you’ll notice that it’s the putting and short game that differentiates a scratch golfer from someone that’s shooting 4 over par.

That said, if you’re unsure which putter on this list to go with, the TaylorMade Spider Tour Putter #3 is your best bet to start with. So far, I’ve yet to hear one complaint from those using this putter. But regardless of which putter you get, please start practicing your putts! They really do make you the better golfer at the end of the day.
