Remember the 2018 Rogue driver? I do, it was outstanding. But somehow, Callaway managed to release something even better in 2022. In our 15 years of reviewing golf drivers, the release of the 2022 Callaway Rogue ST MAX driver has been one of the best drivers that have outperformed every other driver in terms of performance, forgiveness, design, and demand.
That said, this is without a doubt one of the BEST drivers that balances forgiveness, launch ability, and distance while somehow accommodating most golfers from different skill levels. What’s more, the gold, carbon-black design is stunning. In two words, premium and luxurious! I won’t be surprised if every millionaire golfer picks this driver simply for its exceptional design. Performance
Coming into this, I was somewhat skeptical about how different Callaway could have made the new Rogue ST MAX from its renowned older brother, the 2018 Rogue driver. But boy was I wrong.
Unlike the previous 2018 Rogue, there is slightly more weight with the new Rogue ST MAX which you can really feel at the sole of the driver mainly from the 26g Tungsten Speed Cartridge placed deep and low behind the club head. Being the heaviest out of all 4 Rogue ST models, the heavier Speed Cartridge lets you feel the driver’s head during the golf swing, giving the ST MAX a better ‘round-like’ feel during your golf swing. This feel helped me nail the sweet spot more consistently and really seemed to ‘punch’ the golf ball more on impact. This led to shots off the face being long, with a good amount of roll left in them while mishits were stabilized leading to a relatively squared club face regardless.
Though the ST MAX is not the draw-bias model (that would be the MAX D), I noticed that the ST MAX still has a slight draw-bias. This reduced the severity of my slices making the golf ball stay relatively close to the edge of the fairway or at a playable rough. This is where I noticed just how forgiving this driver is while not sacrificing much to any of its performance.
When it comes to stability, this is where the Callaway Rogue ST MAX driver really shines and seriously contributes to how you are able to consistently hit the golf ball dead-center. The overall head stability is accomplished by the titanium unibody construction which also lowers the center of gravity of the driver, while Callaway’s proprietary Triaxial Carbon crown and sole allow for efficient weight distribution making this driver comfortable, lightweight, and able to create high-launching golf shots while maintaining that slight draw-bias we mentioned earlier.
Now, let’s talk about how this driver handles ball spin. Being a driver that focuses a lot on forgiveness, this driver produces average spin but enough to keep the ball far in the fairway and high enough for a good amount of consistent straightness. This is all thanks to Callaway’s Flash Face S22 technology which was something that “could not be achieved without the help of A.I.”.
Finally, we’ve all heard about Callaway’s patented Jailbreak Technology which clearly is fitted on the Callaway Rogue ST MAX driver as well. The Jailbreak A.I. Speed Frame provides additional stability in the horizontal and torsional directions. The Speed Frame improves the MOI but more importantly increases the COR of the driver.
This means a self-sufficient harnessing face that dampens the ‘recoil’ from making contact with the golf ball and delivers that energy right back to the golf ball. No wonder this driver can hit not only far, but sound so much calmer compared to other drivers on the market right now.

Sound and Feel
The Callaway Rogue ST MAX driver has a very round, quiet, but ‘solid’ sound. Feedback from the driver, I’ll give it an 8 out of 10 as sometimes I am not sure where I hit the ball on the face. However, shots off the center (sweet spot) were obvious and created a slightly higher pop sound.
Feel-wise, the driver feels extremely solid and you can really sense the club head during the golf swing due to the driver’s well-positioned low center of gravity inducing Tungsten Speed Cartridge. Centered shots felt powerful, solid, and refreshing.
